As per Singapore's Land Transport Authority, the decision was driven due to traffic congestion and a shortage of space. The densely populated territory has a land area less than half the size of the city of Houston, but more than twice as many people.
What are the plans for transport in future?
From the second month of the new year, Singapore government plans to make people travel through public transport. It is planning to spend 28 billion Singapore dollars on building and upgrading rail and bus networks over the next five years.
